Since I sit here at Port Blair and feel ashamed of being a soldier and being unable to do anything, put my anger into words; while watching the Mumbai blasts on NDTV, AajTak and all sundry channels. As a city burns withers and is torn apart I wonder, how a set of people who were up against people of the same country but different state, can sit and watch someone from a different country come into the heart of their city blow them up in their sleep and leave in a gala mood. The same set of people who wanted to clean their state of the muck are hiding in their homes from the heat of the flames that rage in the streets, and be silent spectators to the dance of death another group of assailants are playing in their own yard. Where are the Marathi manoos of ‘Maharasthra Nirman Samiti’ now??? The terrorists drawing the blood of the people of Maharashtra by thrusting the dagger so deep aren’t being stopped by the Maratha warriors whom we had seen last month blasting their way into every office, train, station on a rampage, damaging the very machinery and fibre of unity that runs the city, where has their morality gone now? Has their love for their brethren died with the few people who died in Mumbai, of which about half were caught by bullets on their back. Why aren’t we seeing them holding sticks and guns hitting the terrorists hard. Its the police and Defence which needs orders from the higher command not the ‘MOB’.
Just think about it, a handful of terrorists knock down the guard off a prestigious 5 star hotel, take about a hundred guests hostage and start blowing it up into smithereens. And a few brave ones, if you don’t want to call them COWARDS, had the legs to run out of the hotel with their backs to the ones inside. If a hundred people inside a hotel which is full of lovely hard tables, heavy vases which when break on someone’s head don’t just leave a gash, a full galley(kitchen) with assorted knives and if not many atleast five/ ten guys who can use the knives pretty well, atleast ten more butlers who’ve handled trays all their lives, lot more managers bartenders etc, as claimed by the Taj administration cant stop those handfuls from gaining control inside and fell down many more people outside; can be called mere souls without a body and mind to understand and act accordingly. If they cant help save others they don’t have the right to become hostage and put others’ safety and right of action on the wire. They by staying inside and not resisting the terrorists not only helped them but encouraged them. There were many witensses who had seen the triggerhappy terrorists go away in a Police patrol vehicle, if not kill them they could have at least given a hard chase……made them to feel like Mumbai is actually alive and truly ‘kicking‘. A city which resorted to bombing their own country men cant ask for help from others……… it has to prove its own worth.
Through this message I ask every Mumbaikar in particular and every citizen in general to prop their ears to listen to the smallest whisper conspiring against us, open their eyes watch and observe things around, stretch their arms and hold their countrymen close, not push them away on the word of some politician who stays in his cosy home while the city ‘BURNS‘.
